Abstract:
|
The data set includes C-band (wavelength 5.310 cm) dual-pol radar data from Ikaalinen (61.76734 N, 23.07645 E), with antenna height 153.0 m above msl and the tower height is 37.0 m. The radar locates 64 km with 81.8 degrees (from North) to Hyytiala.

Purpose:
|
The data is sent to ARM to compare with the other data sets, specially radar and lidar data, during AMF2 deployment in Hyytiala in Finland. The dual-pol data enables e.g. also the classification hydrometeors.

Sun calibration is performed collecting daily hits to sun from PPIs. [Huuskonen, A., and I. Holleman, 2007. Determining weather radar antenna pointing using signals detected from the sun at low antenna elevations, J. Atmos. Oceanic Technol., 24, 476-483]. ZDR calibration is measured every 15 minutes, but corrected as noticed to be drifted. The resolution for PPI and RHI differ depending on task, it is stated in the iris metadata.

No routine for after-checking. Normal precleaning, such as clutter supression based on GMAP, clutter-to-signal ratio and signal+noise-to-noise ratio, is performed.

Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) has recently opened the radar data, but it is provided only as images, not as raw data.
