Subject: | SGP/SIRS/E16 - Downwelling global SW incorrect |
DataStreams: | sgpsirsE16.b1, sgpsirs20sE16.a0 |
Description: | The down_short_hemisp (PSP instrument) values exhibit a large offset due to ventilator fan failure and induced instrument heating. This offset cannot be corrected. Users can derive an estimate of global shortwave values with the following formula: global = direct * cos(zenith angle) + diffuse |

Subject: | SGP/SIRS/E13 - NIP damaged by lightning strike |
DataStreams: | sgpsirsE13.b1, sgpsirs20sE13.a0 |
Description: | Apparent lightning strike in the instrument cluster area resulted in a failed NIP. The SIRS was due for calibration change outs so the US, DS, DD and NIP were replaced. The updated program was loaded at approximately 1730 GMT. An estimate of direct normal values can be derived using the following formula: short_direct_normal = (down_short_hemisp - down_short_diffuse_hemisp)/cos(zenith angle) |

Subject: | SGP/SIRS/E13 - Intermittent upwelling longwave |
DataStreams: | sgpsirsE13.b1, sgpsirs20sE13.a0 |
Description: | Beginning 9/19/2011 @ 15:12, the upwelling longwave values are often spiking to large and small values throughout the day. A multiplexer was found to be the problem and the ops replaced it on 10/27/2011. Incorrect data are not recoverable for the specified time range. However, good data exists within the time range. The SGPQCRAD VAP data stream provides flags for "good" data and appears to accurately flag bad data during this time range. Users are advised to use this data stream to screen for correct up_long_hemisp values. |
