Subject: | SGP/MFRSR/E8 - Data not quality assured |
DataStreams: | sgpmfrsrE8.a0, sgpmfrsrE8.b1 |
Description: | Data from October 1, 1999 through March 2001 from MFRSR.E8 should be used with caution. During this time period only minimal quality control and maintenance were provided to the SGP extended facility MFRSRs because these data were considered to be of questionable value under the best of circumstances. That decision was reversed in 2001 when Joe Michalsky identified a means to make the MFRSR data scientifically useable. In the interim, the MFRSRs developed problems with shading, leveling, calibration and all-out hardware failures and the stock of spare MFRSRs was depleted and not replenished. Most of the shading and leveling problems have now been corrected in the field as well as possible, but almost all of the extended facilty MFRSRs still need to be recalibrated or replaced. |

DataStreams: | sgpmfrsrE8.a0, sgpmfrsrE8.b1 |
Description: | The 415 nm channel was reporting noisy or erratic data frequently during this timeframe. The sensor and shadow band motor cables were replaced on 05/22 and no problems have been noted since this time. |

Description: | This data should be used with caution. Repeated misalignment problems during this timeperiod resulted in alternating periods of acceptable measurements and measurements with unacceptable noise and error due to the misalignment. |

DataStreams: | sgpmfrsrE8.00, sgpmfrsrE8.a0, sgpmfrsrE8.b1, sgpmfrsrlangleyE8.c1, sgpmfrsrlangplotE8.c1 |
Description: | The measurements from the 415 nm channel are not correct. Data from this channel fluctuate, drop out and are often noisy. From the start of this DQR until around July 1, 2004, channel 415 data are consistently poor. Beginning in July we see 415 often looks OK. From this point until the end of the DQR channel 415 is sporadically bad, with longer periods of good appearing data as time moves on. This DQR ends and DQR D050920.1 begins. They were not lumped together as this DQR covers periods when 415 is not operating properly and the following DQR covers periods when 415 is completely non-functional. The final resolution of the problem appears to have been a bad connection to channel 415. |

Description: | Channel 415 is frequently noisy or drops out altogether. Seems to be a continuation of the problem addressed in DQR D050920.1. Instrument operated like this until 1/10/2006 when a catastrophic failure occurred. Unknown if this failure is related to the 415 issue. Instrument was pulled for repair. |
