Subject: | NSA/MFRSR/C1 - Calibration checked |
DataStreams: | nsamfrsrC1.a0, nsamfrsrC1.b1 |
Description: | The calibration of the MFRSR was checked during deployment using Langley regression. These calibrations were bracketed by pre- and post-deployment calibration checks. Results from these checks indicate that the MFRSR was in a good state of calibration during the 1999 season. The ios (in W/m^2/nm) are: 415 nm - 1.767 500 nm - 1.949 616 nm - 1.710 674 nm - 1.539 867 nm - 0.954 These values are within 1% of the ios derived by taking the dot product of the filter functions with the Gueymard extraterrestrial spectrum. |

Subject: | NSA/MFRSR/C1 - Shadowband misalignment |
DataStreams: | nsamfrsrC1.a0, nsamfrsrC1.b1 |
Description: | The Barrow MFRSR shadowband did not operate properly following the spring installation (4-7-2002). The band was misaligned and multiple attempts to correct the alignment were unsuccessful. It was not possible to correct the problem because of persistent clouds. The problem continued throughout the entire MFRSR data collection season. |

DataStreams: | nsamfrsrC1.a0, nsamfrsrC1.b1, nsamfrsrlangleyC1.c1, nsamfrsrlangplotC1.c1 |
Description: | There was a very minor shading problem when the instrument resumed banding after solar midnight. This only affected a small portion of each day; not more than two hours after the instrument resumed banding after solar midnight. 7/9 is the best example of the problem. The boundaries of this DQR are a little loose as the often cloudy conditions make it difficult to precisely say when the problem stopped. Maintenance was performed on 9/5, but the problem was not visible sometime before that. |

Description: | Immediately following the post winter re-installation, a shading problem is evident between the hours of 1900 and 0200 (spans midnight). This continues until 4/10/2008 when an attempt was made to resolve the problem. It helped some, but shifted the shading problem between the hours of 0200 - 1900. Description: | There is a minor shading issue at high zenith angles (0530 - 1630 UTC). Due to extremely persistent cloudy conditions, maintenance was not attempted until 20090811. Cloudy conditions persisted, and it was never clear from the data if the instrument was shading properly at high zenith angles. Subject: | NSA/QCRAD/C1/C2 - error in qc flags |
DataStreams: | nsaqcrad1longC1.c1, nsaqcrad1longC2.c1 |
Description: | In the qc_down_short_diffuse_hemisp field, QC failures from the test indicated by bit_13, "data failed tracker off test", were set incorrectly as bit_9, "GSW2SumSW (93 > SZA > 75 and SumSW > 50; GSW/SumSW < 0.85 or GSW/SumSW > 1.15)". Solar tracker failures are correctly indicated in the aqc_down_short_diffuse_hemisp field. In the qc_short_direct_normal field, QC failures from the test indicated by bit_10, "data failed tracker off test", were set incorrectly as bit_9, "GSW2SumSW (93 > SZA > 75 and SumSW > 50; GSW/ SumSW < 0.85 or GSW/SumSW > 1.15)". Solar tracker failures are correctly indicated in the aqc_short_direct_normal field. This is a software problem in the VAP that impacts all dates for which a solar tracker failure occurred prior to 20100608 for each facility. The 19990821 start date was chosen because the DQR system can not link multiple start/end date/times with multiple facilities within the same report. As a result, the latest start date corresponding to C2 was chosen. The actual start dates for which this problem could have occurred for each facility are as follows: C1: 19980215 C2: 19990821 Please note that if a solar tracker failure is not indicated by the aqc_down_short_diffuse_hemisp and/or aqc_short_direct_normal fields you can ignore this DQR. |
