On Saturday and Sunday, December 26 and 27th a powerful winter storm (Goliath) brought 
sleet and freezing rain to much of Oklahoma with wind gusts of 45 MPH at times. The result 
was very very slick roads and mass power outages.
 
The SGP central facility lost power at 8:55 PM CDT on Sunday, December 27th.  
The power was restored on 7:56 PM CDT on Wednesday, December 30th
 
Site Emergency procedures were activated and Technicians drained water out of instrument 
reservoirs and other measures as needed, early Monday morning.
 
On Wednesdays as roads and power started was restored to much of the areas east of I-35 , 
Site Technicians performed maintenance on several Extended Facilities.

During this period, data are potentially missing, incorrect, or suspect.  Carefully

Long-term averages of vertical velocity variance profiles developed from vertical staring 
data show a height-dependent sinusoidal modulation superimposed on the atmospheric 
variance profile. This modulation causes a wiggle in the variance profile. The period of the 
wiggle is about 350 m, and the effect is most obvious during hot afternoon periods in the 
summer months. The exact cause of this problem is not known, but we suspect that it may be 
caused by temperature sensitivity in beam alignment.

Due to the thermal inertia of the instrument wall, slow signal response and a radial 
temperature gradient inside the instrument cavity, the reported RH and temperature inside the 
wet nephelometer are off by 2-10% RH and 1-2 degrees C. The radial temperature gradients 
inside the instrument need to be characterized at several locations within the instrument 
with respect to a calibrated Vaisala T and RH sensor at the instrument exit. The 
resulting fRH VAP needs to be recalculated and analyzed.

When examining the ratio of the total number concentration from the SMPS vs. the CPCF, a 
shift in the ratio was detected following a site visit where the SMPS was used to 
calibrate other instruments.  Upon further examination by site ops, it was noticed that the 
tubing from the aerosol inlet to the SMPS was not connected.  The instrument had been sampling 
from the cabin and not from the atmosphere.

GOES-8 was commanded into safe hold mode at approximately 4 AM EST on
Tuesday, October 27, in response to a large attitude disturbance.
GOES-10 was placed into a full disk imaging mode beginning at
approximately 8 AM (EST) October 28th to cover for the GOES-8 outage.

Since the GOES8 data feeds the minnis products and the profiles derived
by the University of Wisconsin (sgpg8profX1) these data are unavailable
for the same time period that the GOES8 data are unavailable. We did
receive GOES10 data for some of the period that we are missing GOES8.
The GOES10 data are available for 981028 from 0100 to 1800(GMT), every half
hour. We will be processing these files as a new data stream but there
will be a delay until the ingest is modified to handle the GOES10.
