20060501. XDC began to retrieve WPDN data from UCAR IDD network on 05/18/2006. The data 
is missing in the interim. The replacement data for this time period can be picked up 
from the MADIS Archive.

Description:
There were intermittent data corruption problems during July and August 2006. The problem 
was due to transmission problems between the original source (ESRL/GSD) and the 
intermediary data provider (IDD network).  See PIF P060822.1 for more details. The raw data has 
various random errors and the quality of the data is questionable.  Therefore, raw data 
should be with caution.

Attribute serial_number: In most cases, this field is not representative of the actual 
serial number of the instrument because the value did not change when an instrument changed 
locations or was replaced with a spare.
   
Variable sum_backscatter: An out-of-range condition for the "sum of detected and 
normalized backscatter" was reported as 0 instead of missing (-9999). The valid range is 0 - 
0.0999 /srad.
