SGP/SIRS/E18 - Missing data due to Ice storm and clock problems
DataStreams:sgpsirsE18.00
Description:
Data are missing due to power failures caused by an ice storm
and resulting system/instrument clock problems.
Measurements:sgpsirsE18.00:
  • Raw data stream - documentation not supported

SGP/SIRS/E18 - Instrument noise problem
DataStreams:sgpsirsE18.00
Description:
Upwelling longwave data was somewhat noisy during this period. There
was a direct relation to the case and dome thermistor measurements for
the upwelling longwave PIR (UIR). Data quality does not appear to be
greatly affected overall, though instantaneous values had greater
than usual variability. The noise disappeared on 10/19.

SGP/SIRS/E18 - Possible PSP dome contamination
DataStreams:sgpsirsE18.00
Description:
Downwelling shortwave hemispheric (DSH) measurements did not agree with derived DSH
readings during the morning hours up to 1500GMT each clear day. PM cleaning on 2/16 2250
revealed nothing other than dirty water spots. A dirty or ice covered PSP dome may have been
the cause, clearing itself before the PM crew arrived.

SGP/SIRS/E18 - Upwelling SW cable severed
DataStreams:sgpsirsE18.00
Description:
The Upwelling Shortwave signal was exceeding physical limits. Ops reported the upwelling
shortwave cable was damaged by rodents. The cable was repaired and returned to service.

DataStreams:sgpsirsE16.00, sgpsirsE18.00
Description:
Ice storms affected the SGP central and extended facilities starting Dec 10 0000GMT to
mid/late December. Each facility was affected at various times and degrees dependant on
elevation, latitude and whether power failed for short or extended periods of time. By
December 15th most ice had melted from the radiometers at all the faclities but power outages
and tracker failures persisted at some stations.

SGP/SIRS/E18 - Ventilator Fan Failure
DataStreams:sgpsirsE18.00
Description:
At the start time specified the PSP (down_short_hemisp) ventilator fan failed. PM replaced
the fan 6/30/2008 2110. Ventilator failure does adversely affect radiometer
measurements but the extent has not been quantified. Mentor suggests using component sum method
detailed in SIRS instrument handbook where down_short_hemisp = down_short_diffuse +
short_direct_normal * cos (zenith angle) for each time record.
