The output precision of the following variables was increased 20060929:

   alt	changed from 1m to 0.1m
   dp	changed from 0.1degC to 0.01degC
   pres changed from 0.1 hPa to 0.01 hPa
   RH	changed from 1%RH to 0.01%RH
   tdry changed from .1degC to 0.01degC

Note that the increase in precision does not necessarily imply an increase
in accuracy.  Users are cautioned to continue to use their best scientific
judgement when using these or any other data.

Due to a processing error the atten_beta_r_backscatter variable is missing 100% of the 
time.  This is not a critical problem as the rest of the subsequent derived fields are 
properly reported.  

Data will be reprocessed at a later date.

NSA/HSRL/C1 - Laser instability

Description:
The HSRL laser still exhibits instability causing calibration uncertainty, especially for 
the beta_a (extinction profile), beta_a_backscatter (backscatter profile), and depol 
(depolarization ratio). 

Cloud and aerosol layer heights are quantitative and accurate however the calibrated 
quantities above have increased uncertainty.  Nevertheless, the sensitivity of the HSRL in 
this degraded mode is still superior to other lidar on site (MPL and VCeil). 

The laser failed on 07/19/2013 at 22:30.

  • Linear depolarization ratio profile(depol)
