Description:
The HSRL was suffering from operational issues following an enclosure overheating 
incident.  Data continued to be collected, albeit with reduced power output, detection 
sensitivity, and calibration issues.  It has utility for cloud and aerosol detection but must be 
used with caution.  Heights and locations are quantitative and reliable, intensities are not.

Description:
Following installation instrument was still not operating optimally.  Laser instability 
and reduced sensitivity were impacting measurements.  Cleaning of the external window 
improved signal levels and sensitivity on March 18 17:30.

The height of detected clouds and aerosols is quantitative and accurate however the 
calibrated backscatter quantities are uncertain.  Nevertheless, the sensitivity of the HSRL 
even in this degraded capacity is superior to VCeil and MPL for cloud and aerosol detection.

Description:
The HSRL laser still exhibits instability causing calibration uncertainty, especially for 
the beta_a (extinction profile), beta_a_backscatter (backscatter profile), and depol 
(depolarization ratio). 

Cloud and aerosol layer heights are quantitative and accurate however the calibrated 
quantities above have increased uncertainty.  Nevertheless, the sensitivity of the HSRL in 
this degraded mode is still superior to other lidar on site (MPL and VCeil). 

The laser failed on 07/19/2013 at 22:30.
