NSA/MFR10M/C1 - No data collected during winter
DataStreams:nsamfr10mC1.a0, nsamfr10mC1.b1
Description:
The sun does not rise above the horizon at the NSA sites between
November and January each year. During this time period, the MFR
instruments are removed and returned to PNNL for maintenance
and calibration. The instruments are generally re-installed in
March.

NSA/MFR10M/C1 - Shadowband misaligned
DataStreams:nsamfr10mC1.a0, nsamfr10mC1.b1
Description:
During the period 19980327-19980416, the latitude and longitude entered into the MFR10m
and used by the instrument software to control shadowband placement was incorrect. This
resulted in a slight shading problem. Users should be aware of the problem and use the
data during this period with caution.

The internal lat and lon were corrected on 19980416, but the shadowband was not properly
aligned. This resulted in a more pronounced shading problem. The alignment was corrected
on 19980424. Data during this period should also be used with caution.

NSA/MFR10M/C1 - Channel 415 noise
DataStreams:nsamfr10mC1.a0, nsamfr10mC1.b1
Description:
There are some very minor downward spikes in the 415 channel that were first noticed in
the daytime data on 9/7/2006. They occur throughout Sept and less into Oct/Nov. The
instrument was pulled on 11/22 and will be examined over the winter. The spikes really are
very minor, and at times only appear as minor bulges when the plot is expanded to a very
large scale.

NSA/MFR10M/C1 - Instrument rotated skyward to check calibration
DataStreams:nsamfr10mC1.a0, nsamfr10mC1.b1
Description:
For purposes of checking the calibration stability, the GNDMFR at the NSA Barrow was
turned upside down for two days (19990413-19990414). So instead of looking at the ground,
this instrument was pointed toward the zenith.

When the GNDMFR was turned outside down and compared with the MFRSR data, very good
agreement between the two data streams was observed. This indicates that both instruments'
calibrations are remaining stable.

NSA/MFR10M/C1 - Instrument rotated skyward to check calibration
DataStreams:nsamfr10mC1.a0, nsamfr10mC1.b1
Description:
On 19990609 at about 16:10 LST the instrument was flipped upside down so that it was
pointed directly at the zenith to assess the calibration stability of the both the MFR10m and
the MFRSR.

This test revealed agreement between the two instruments that ranged from 0.5 to 2.5%,
depending on the wavelength channel under consideration. The average "error" is 1.5%. This
is reasonably good agreement between the two instruments, and there is no evidence of
gross calibration problems.

The test ended on 19990610 at about 11:30 LST, at which time the MFR10m
was positioned to point towards the ground.
