Description:
Beginning around 0317 UTC, 11/21, downwelling shortwave values became anamolously high 
during the night, when they should have been around zero. Values returned to normal after 
SGP technicians reseated this instruments connections at 1215UTC 12/02/2003.  The following 
day's data appeared normal.  Appears that a poor connection was the culprit this time.

During the pyrgeometer instrument (PIR) changout a datalogger program was loaded with 
incorrect calibration coefficients for the shortwave instruments.  The affected measurements 
(instruments) were : downwelling diffuse (8-48), upwelling shortwave(PSP), direct normal 
(NIP) and downwelling shortwave (PSP)

Recalculate irradiances by determining original mV signal and reapplying the correct 
calibration coefficients.  For each one minute irradiance value perform the following 
calculations by instrument:

NIP(corrected)= (NIP/120.17)*122.26

Description:
Modified pyrgeometer calibration procedures were implemented beginning in February 2004. 
These modified procedures introduced a calibration bias in the longwave data. The previous 
procedures were re-implemented at all sites between December 2005 and February 2006 to 
restore proper calibrations.

The data collected while the incorrect procedures were in place have been reprocessed to 
remove the calibration bias.  The reprocessed 60 second averaged data are based on 3 
instantaneous 20 second data records rather than on 60 1 second instantaneous data records.  
Still, these data are considered far superior to the originally processed data. The 
reprocessed data were archived in October 2006.

Beginning around 10/31, the E7 UIR experienced an increasingly noisy signal.  The 
thermopile signal was noisy, but case and dome thermistors are well behaved.  Maintenance 
reseated the UIR cable connections on 12/12/2006 which effectively eliminated the UIR noise.

The thermopile data from the upwelling pyrgeometer is noisy with resulting irradiance 
variations of up to 5 W/m2, but doesn't appear to have a bias.

Description:
Ice storms affected the SGP central and extended facilities starting Dec 10 0000GMT to 
mid/late December. Each facility was affected at various times and degrees dependant on 
elevation, latitude and whether power failed for short or extended periods of time.  By 
December 15th most ice had melted from the radiometers at all the faclities but power outages 
and tracker failures persisted at some stations.

Description:
The downwelling shortwave (Global PSP) values were dropping out.  Problem started 2/4 but 
became persistent 3/9 and continued until replacement of Mux on 5/15.

PSP data (down_short_hemisp) is not recoverable but can be calculated using:
global = direct*cos(zenith angle) + diffuse

Description:
The short_direct_normal data were reported as -9999 during this time period. The start of 
the bad data from the NIP instrument on 05/12 coincides with a SMOS report of 2 inches of 
rain.  

NIP data are not recoverable. Users can calculate short_direct normal component using 
component sum method as follows (for each minute of available data):

short_direct_normal = (down_short_hemisp - down_short_diffuse_hemisp)/cos(zenith angle)
