Description:
Below is an overview from Chris Fiebrich, the Mesonet QA manager
of the automated quality assurance results for the December 1999
Oklahoma Mesonet data.

There are a few special events in the December Mesonet data

Date    Station  Parameter(s)
----    -------  ------------
12/06 BUFF TAIR Thin band of snow cover caused this site
                                to be much cooler than neighboring
                                stations. You can ignore the automated
                                QA flags.

12/09 LAHO PRES Meso-low moved very close to this site
                                during heavy thunderstorms.  You can
                                disregard the flags.

12/11 BBOW WS2M Absolutely calm conditions all day caused
                                this site to fail our persistence test.
                                You can ignore the flags.

12/16 CALV RELH Localized cold-air drainage occurred at
                                this site. You can disregard the flags.

12/17 SALL TAIR Again, cold-air drainage
        WIST     TAIR           Again, cold-air drainage

12/29 CHEY TAIR/TA9M Station poked above inversion layer,
                                ignore the flags
        MEDI TAIR Station poked above inversion layer,
                                ignore the flags

12/30 WIST TAIR Cold-air drainage. Disregard the flags.

       OKLAHOMA MESONETWORK/ARS QUALITY ASSURANCE REPORT
       for the month of December, 1999

       Based upon observations taken at 1800 UTC each day

       Prepared by Chris Fiebrich (qamgr@redrock.ocs.ou.edu)

=======================================================================
Notes:

Wintry weather caused the barometer tubes to freeze shut at MARS on
12/5 and at ALV2 and BUFF on 12/10. The problem resolved itslef
when temperatures warmed above freezing. The observation times
affected were flagged in the Qualparm database.

A thin band of snowcover over the northwestern part of the state from
12/5-12/7 played havoc with the spatial automated QA. For instance,
on the morning of 12/6, stations within the band of snowcover cooled
to as low as 10 F, whereas adjacent sites outside of the band stayed
in the upper 20s.

Notes:
One last ice storm... Mother Nature coated much of western
Oklahoma with freezing rain on March 16-17, causing upwards of
40 wind monitors to freeze solid. These observations were
flagged in Qualparm to indicate their suspicious readings.

Description:
Below is an overview from Chris Fiebrich, the Mesonet QA manager
of the automated quality assurance results for the April 2000
Oklahoma Mesonet data.

===============================================================
Notes:
The Mesonet Technicians are beginning their Spring Pass
of all Mesonet and ARS stations. All sites will be visited
over the next 2 months to perform routine maintenance, along
with point data comparisons of many parameters. In addition,
site photos are being taken to document ground cover and a new
procedure is being performed to recalibrate our site elevations
via test barometers.

===============================================================
Notes:
The Mesonet Technicians continued site visits during May as
part of "Spring Pass 2000". All stations will have received
maintenance by the end of June.

A cow broke through the enclosure at JAYX on May 12. I've been
meaning to tell Ken Meyers I found somebody looking like they
were up to no good at the nearby Pryor site:
http://radar.metr.ou.edu/cgi-bin/sitephoto.cgi?site=pryo&dir=ne&info=photos

Do you think we have our first suspect?

(That link comes from our online site photo gallery accessible
through the main Mesonet web page at http://okmesonet.ocs.ou.edu.)

SGP/OKM Overview of Automated QA - June 2000
DataStreams:sgp05okmX1.a1, sgp05okmX1.b1, sgp15okmX1.a1, sgp15okmX1.b1
Description:
Below is an overview from Chris Fiebrich, the Mesonet QA manager
of the automated quality assurance results for the June 2000
Oklahoma Mesonet data.

===============================================================
Notes:
The Mesonet Technicians completed Spring Pass 2000 on June 30.
The point comparisons they performed on the TAIR, RELH, PRES,
SRAD, and RAIN parameters were very useful for QA of Mesonet
data. A number of sensors reporting slightly outside of the
Mesonet's acceptable error ranges were identified.

Many site photos were taken during Spring Pass 2000 to document
vegetation cover around the bare and sod soil temperature plots,
the soil heat flux sensors, and the soil moisture plots at each
station. Look for those pictures along with the site visitation
forms indicating the technician's notes to be available on the
web next month.

One more note... The monthly analysis for June identified the
very heavy rains that fell over east Oklahoma during mid to late
June. Westville took top honors with a June total of
17.04 inches!

       OKLAHOMA MESONETWORK/ARS QUALITY ASSURANCE REPORT
       for the month of September, 1999

       Based upon observations taken at 1800 UTC each day

       Prepared by Chris Fiebrich (qamgr@redrock.ocs.ou.edu)

=======================================================================
Notes:

The Mesonet technicians were busy in September resolving over 37
trouble tickets. Lightning at OKEM and BRIS, along with the hot summer
of 1999 really made the problems pile up. In addition to this,
9 sites were upgraded for the OASIS project, and one site (BOIS) was
upgraded to a Super Site.

       OKLAHOMA MESONETWORK/ARS QUALITY ASSURANCE REPORT
       for the month of July, 1999

       Based upon observations taken at 1800 UTC each day

       Prepared by Chris Fiebrich (qamgr@redrock.ocs.ou.edu)

=======================================================================
Notes:

Many trouble tickets were resolved during the month of July by the
Mesonet Technicians. The lightning-damaged sites of CLAY, BURB,
OKEM, and A182 were all brought back to full-performance.

In addition, the T/RH sensors were replaced at ELRE, MAYR, PAWN,
RING, KING, GRA2, BREC, A135, A151, and A167 to eliminate suspicious
or problematic sensors from the field.

One final note- Ken Meyers discovered vandalism to the rain gauge
at A134 and replaced it.

       OKLAHOMA MESONETWORK/ARS QUALITY ASSURANCE REPORT
       for the month of August, 1999

       Based upon observations taken at 1800 UTC each day

       Prepared by Chris Fiebrich (qamgr@redrock.ocs.ou.edu)

=======================================================================
Notes:

The ARS site of A137 was vandalized on August 23. The solar panel
and battery were damaged there.

VINI was struck by lightning on August 11. Fortunately, damage was
contained to only the T/RH sensor. In addition to replacing the
damaged sensor, some of the other hardware were replaced at VINI
to be on the safe side.

And finally, 12 Mesonet sites received OASIS upgrades during the month.

Description:
The Mesonet station near Marshall was moved on September 25, 2003 to improve accessiblity
for the Mesonet technicians who visit and maintain the site.
The new site has the code MRSH. It replaces the old Marshall site that
had the code MARS. Since the latitude and longitude of the stations are
included in the cdf file, users of these data should not have a problem.

Notes:

After a fairly long dry spell, the last weekend of January brought 1 to 2
inch rainfall totals to most sites in the Mesonet. This event brought
to our attention an under-reporting gauge at NOWA.

Along with the rainfall, the Panhandle stations got quite a bit of
freezing rain and snow. The 10-m wind sensors were most affected
     this time around. GOOD, BEAV, HOOK, and SLAP all had their
anemometers
freeze solid as the ice accumulated.

And now, on to the report...

       OKLAHOMA MESONETWORK/ARS QUALITY ASSURANCE REPORT
       for the month of April, 1999

       Based upon observations taken at 1800 UTC each day

       Prepared by Chris Fiebrich (qamgr@redrock.ocs.ou.edu)

========================================================================
Forces of Nature:
SHAW, SALL and CLAY were each struck by lightning during the month
of April, causing varying degrees of damage to the instrumentation
at those sites. CLAY is no stranger to lightning strikes. This was
its third strike since its birth in March of 1994. As a preview to
next month's QA report, I'd like to note that CLAY saw its FOURTH
strike just last week!

Bulls were reported to have attacked BRIS during April, knocking down
a pyranometer stand, destroying the temperature and RH sensor, and
causing damage to the rain gauge there.

Mischievous cows also knocked down the pyranometer stand at WASH.

On to the report...

Description:
Below is an overview from Chris Fiebrich, the Mesonet QA manager
of the automated quality assurance results for the June 1999
Oklahoma Mesonet data.

There are a few special events that were flagged by the automatic
qa that you may want to be aware of:

                                   at MAYR caused it to spatially in-
                                   consistent with neighboring sites;
                                   you can ignore the flags

                                   to dip slightly below zero over night
                                   (ie, to -1 or -2 Watts/m^2).  The
                                   data is fine, however, and you can

       OKLAHOMA MESONETWORK/ARS QUALITY ASSURANCE REPORT
       for the month of June, 1999

       Based upon observations taken at 1800 UTC each day

       Prepared by Chris Fiebrich (qamgr@redrock.ocs.ou.edu)

=======================================================================
Notes:

Lightning struck at WALT, OKEM, and A182 during June. All 3 sites suf-
fered damage to their dataloggers, radios, and wiring panels. In
addition, the pyranometer and RH sensor at OKEM were damaged, while the
soil moisture sensors, rain gauge, and numerous soil temperature
sensors were damaged at WALT. A182 also required a new pyranometer
due to its strike.

After thorough Mesocomp performed by Ken Meyers in the ARS network,
numerous T/RH sensors were replaced in late June and early July
in anticipation of SGP99.
