SGP/MFRSR/E13 - Reprocess: Angstrom Exponent Error
DataStreams:sgpmfrsrlangleyE13.c1
Description:
The data used to calculate the angstrom exponent was incorrect. These
fields should not be used. All other fields are considered good.

SGP/MWRHF/C1 - 90-GHz questionable calibration
DataStreams:sgpmwrhfC1.b1
Description:
Between 20061103 and 20070301 one of the parameters thresholds used to select good tip
curves used in the calibratio process was not optimal. This resulted in data that have a
high standard deviation and a unsatisfactory agreement with model computations.
After collecting enough points needed to conduct a model comparison the threshold was
changed on March 1.
From a limited data analysis for the month pf March it appears that the change in
threshold has improved the agreement between measurements and the model.

DataStreams:sgpmwrhfC1.b1
Description:
Starting on 2/23 the 150-Ghz channel is showing a temperature of 310 K. The suspected
cause of the problem is a hardware failure. The instrument was removed and sent for repair on
4/2

SGP/MWRHF/C1 - Dew formation on window
DataStreams:sgpmwrhfC1.b1
Description:
During night time, when the humidity is very high (RH ~ 100%) data are strongly affected
by
dew formation on the window.
This results in a smooth and large (80-150 K) increase of the brightness temperature from
early night to sunrise. Data are affected mostly at night.
Measurements:sgpmwrhfC1.b1:
  • Sky brightness temperature (150 GHz)(tbsky150)
  • Sky brightness temperature (90 GHz)(tbsky90)

SGP/MFRSR/E13 - Shadowband misalignment
DataStreams:sgpmfrsrE13.a0, sgpmfrsrE13.b1, sgpmfrsrlangleyE13.c1, sgpmfrsrlangplotE13.c1
Description:
The E13 MFRSR developed a shading problem on or about 05/04. (The exact date when this
problem started is difficult to pin down exactly.) The shading problem is easy to identify
on a clear day because plots of direct beam and diffuse irradiance versus time become
"fuzzy". The total irradiance is not affected.

In response to the shading problem, a whole sequence of events then ensued: these actions
were designed to solve the shading problem but did not succeed until the very end.

Here's a rundown of what took place:

98/05/11 - shadowband adjustment was made at 1544 GMT
         - this adjustment corrected the shading problem that
occurred in the morning, but inadvertently caused
           a PM shading problem
98/05/20 - shadowband adjustment at 1804 GMT
98/05/21 - shadowband adjustment at 1630 GMT
98/06/01 - shadowband adjustment at 1910 GMT
98/06/02 - shadowband adjustmnet at 1550 GMT

Alas, these adjustments did not solve the shading problem and
it seemed to get worse (for example, on 06/11 the shading
is VERY BAD from sunup until about 1500 LST).

98/06/16 - shadowband adjustment at 1715 GMT

This final adjustment seems to a solved the problem!
