NSA/MWR/C1 - Spikes in air temperature readings
DataStreams:nsamwrlosC1.b1, nsamwrtipC1.a1
Description:
During this month there are occasional negative spikes in the Tkair variable. The problem
may be corrosion in the temperature sensor or the infiltration of water from melting snow.
The dewblower was replaced and a new sensor installed
Measurements:nsamwrlosC1.b1:
  • Ambient temperature(tkair)

nsamwrtipC1.a1:
  • Ambient temperature(tkair)

NSA/METTWR/C1 - CMH required Calibration
DataStreams:nsamettwr4hC1.b1
Description:
The Chilled Mirror was showing some signs of being out of calibration. Temperatures were
at times higher than co-located temp probes and the dew point temperature values at times
were not consistent with co-located RH sensors.
Measurements:nsamettwr4hC1.b1:
  • Chilled Mirror Calculated Vapor Pressure(VPCMH)
  • Chilled Mirror Calculated Relative Humidity(CMHRH)
  • Chilled Mirror Dew Point(CMHDP)
  • Chilled Mirror Temperature(CMHTemp)
  • Chilled Mirror Calculated Saturation Vapor Pressure(SatVPCMH)

NSA/METTWR/C1 - 2m level data incorrect
DataStreams:nsamettwr4hC1.b1
Description:
The 2m data for temp, RH, dew point, wind speed wind direction & vapor pressure were
incorrect. The voltage values for the datalogger at that level were reporting as 60V with
excursions to 100V. These values should have damaged the logger at that level. After an
extended power outage on 08/04 the data all became reasonable. There is no explanation as
to the cause of this failure.
Measurements:nsamettwr4hC1.b1:
  • Standard Deviation of 2m Vector Averaged Wind Direction(WD2M_SDU_WVT)
  • 2m Average Calculated Vapor Pressure(VP2M_AVG)
  • Standard Deviation of 2m Calculated Dew Point(DP2M_STD)

NSA/MWR/C1 - Incorrect brightness temperatures and retrievals
DataStreams:nsa5mwravgC1.c1, nsamwrlosC1.b1, nsamwrtipC1.a1
Description:
The brightness temperatures and retrieved PWV and LWP show a sudden jump and have values
that are too high. The suddenly jump back to normal at around 1800 UTC. All other
parameters seem reasonable so the cause of the jump may just be due to accumulation of either
snow or melting ice on the radome.
Measurements:nsa5mwravgC1.c1:
  • Sky brightness temperature at 23.8 GHz(tbsky23)
  • Sky brightness temperature at 31.4 GHz(tbsky31)
  • MWR column precipitable water vapor(vap)
  • Averaged total liquid water along LOS path(liq)

nsamwrtipC1.a1:
  • 31.8 GHz sky brightness temperature derived from tip curve(tbskytip31)
  • Ambient temperature(tkair)
  • Total water vapor along zenith path using tip-derived brightness temperatures(vaptip)
  • 23.8 GHz sky brightness temperature derived from tip curve(tbskytip23)
  • Total liquid water along zenith path using tip-derived brightness temperatures(liqtip)
