SGP/VCEIL/C1 - poor signal
DataStreams:sgpvceil25kC1.b1
Description:
When parameters were changed (set noise_h2_compensation to "ON" and units to "METERS") to
correct a low amplitude problem, the backscatter plots began displaying horizontal
stripes indicating detector "ringing". However, the cloud base heights are not affected. The
problem was corrected when the instrument was replaced.
Measurements:sgpvceil25kC1.b1:
  • Detection status. See details(detection_status)
  • Aerosol volume backscattering coefficient at 355 nm(backscatter)

SGP/NIMFR/E13 - Instrument failure
DataStreams:sgpnimfrE13.00, sgpnimfrE13.a0, sgpnimfrE13.b1
Description:
Head temp values frequently dropped to 0, -50, or -100 degrees Celsius. Often this causes
the filters to drop to values of zero (or act erratic) as well.

On 9/23 the instrument was pulled from service and the mentor found significant damage to
the instrument due to overheating. Instrument will be rebuilt.

SGP/SIRS/C1 - Reprocessed: Longwave Calibration error
DataStreams:sgpsirsC1.b1
Description:
Modified pyrgeometer calibration procedures were implemented beginning in December 2003.
These modified procedures introduced a calibration bias in the longwave data. The previous
procedures were re-implemented at all sites between December 2005 and February 2006 to
restore proper calibrations.

The data collected while the incorrect procedures were in place have been reprocessed to
remove the calibration bias. The reprocessed 60 second averaged data are based on 3
instantaneous 20 second data records rather than on 60 1 second instantaneous data records.
Still, these data are considered far superior to the originally processed data. The
reprocessed data were archived in October 2006.
Measurements:sgpsirsC1.b1:
  • Downwelling Longwave Hemispheric Irradiance, Shaded Pyrgeometer(down_long_hemisp_shaded)
  • Downwelling Longwave Hemispheric Net Infrared(down_long_netir)
  • Upwelling (10 meter) Longwave Hemispheric Irradiance, Ventilated Pyrgeometer(up_long_hemisp)
  • Upwelling Longwave Hemispheric Net Infrared(up_long_netir)
